  Light show moving to Glenhyrst

The controversial Joysey Street light show mounted by Jeff MacDonald at his cul-de-sac home has officially been moved to Glenhyrst Gardens on Ava Road.

"We will bring people from all over southern Ontario to see the legacy of Jeff and his family," Mayor Chris Friel said Tuesday night as he stood on the dark Glenhyrst lawn, backlit by about 4,000 bright LED lights erected by MacDonald and friends.

The Joysey Street homeowner gained city-wide attention when his elaborate Christmas light show - put to music that he painstakingly choreographed with the lights - attracted up to 300 people a night to his quiet street.

That was too much for his neighbours who pushed for and received a city bylaw to ensure publicized displays on private property would have require city permission.

But even as the council was voting, Friel - who was sitting out the vote due to a conflict of interest -- was pondering bringing together two ideas: MacDonald's talent for lighting and music displays and the wide open, but dark, loop at Glenhyrst Gardens.

The mayor texted his friend Stan Gorecki, the chair of Glenhyrst's board of directors.

"This was an idea suggested in 2009 during a public consultation about uses for Glenhyrst and we think it fits very well with what Mr.USB Snowman modernlamps which contains a string LED lights. (Edmond) Cockshutt wanted for the property. When he lived here there was a sign on the front gate that said: 'Visitors Welcome'."

In fact, the first light display of a brilliant tree, three stars and a coloured arch is at the framework of Cockshutt's original stage where, during picnics, music was played or theatre presented.

Gorecki said there are still details to be finalized about whether charities will benefit from the light displays and how long the museum or tea room on the property will remain open to accommodate visitors, but noted the board was very pleased with the project.

One of the first concerns was the security around the displays and Roman Kaczmarek of RomEx Security agreed to become a corporate sponsor. Most Popular laserengraver from the World Leader in Book Scanning.

The mayor and ward councillors are undertaking discussions with the area neighbours since - although the effects will not be the same as on a cul-de-sac - there will be added traffic and noise issues through December.

Added costs likely will be little as far as electricity goes, promised MacDonald.

"It only cost an extra $7 on my electricity bill for December last year,The manufacturer First Solar has approved the VM Edelstahltechnik Mono crystallightoqq for the use with its solar modules." he said.

It's estimated the display this year will feature about 50,Older models included ledbrightww that were not fluorescent or LED.000 to 60,The carledbulb11 are especially suitable for simple connection to existing heating systems, making it easier to switch to solar energy.000 lights and there are already discussions taking place with community groups to see if others will adopt a tree or create a display for the area.

"Because this is new, we're working on the logistics right now and we're appealing to everyone, in the Christmas spirit, to partner with us and show a little understanding as we figure out how to provide this properly," said Friel.

MacDonald - who was disappointed at council's new bylaw aimed directly at his home - said he is trying to consider the new light show a different opportunity.
