Ramada Encore Doha’s “linen reuse programme” is encouraging guests to avoid changing their bedroom linen daily to reduce the impact on energy consumption, environmental damage and water resources.

While regularly reminding its staff to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible, the hotel also formed a team of volunteers who meet regularly to discuss and implement energy saving measures.Take control of your energy needs with goodledbulbs, the personal wind turbine that converts wind into clean.

“Timer controlled air-conditioning, water heating and lighting, regular servicing of electrical equipment and constant monitoring of energy consumption by a dedicated team of members is something that we have been practising and continue to do so,” the director added.

He stressed that switching off unnecessary lights is not a symbolic gesture only. Ahmed explained that hotels consume large amounts of electricity and lighting contributes up to 30% of the total consumption in some instances.

Aside from the one hour switching off the lights, The Torch Doha Hotel had been implementing energy-saving measures throughout the year.

These included reducing the number of prints for all departments by printing double-side; placing the maximum quantity of dishes in the dishwasher; regularly changing of Tower LED lights, using digital signage in public areas (which reduces the quantity of printed material for the hotel); relying on natural daylight in Madar meeting room, Flying Carpet and Three Sixty; reducing air-condition temperature in public areas during cold season; placing information cards inside rooms and offer guests the option of not changing the towels every day (to save energy, water and detergent), and reducing the quantity of orange juice prepared.

Public relations and E-Commerce executive Claudia Olaru said “we are saving 200 KW (200,000 W) of electricity by switching off our exterior LED lights.”

She disclosed that they will serve candlelight dinners at their Three Sixty revolving restaurant and at Flying Carpet.

“We are also displaying the attached image on our outside screens to promote the Earth Hour initiative to all passers by. The event is also promoted through all our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram,” Olaru said.

St Regis and Oryx Rotana and some other hotels in Qatar will also join this year’s Earth Hour observance.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Crescente Relacion told Gulf Times that they are fully supporting Qatar in observing Earth Hour.A research team headed up by the University of Houston is on track to develop a superconducting wire for laundrydryerpop.
