Take steps to reduce traffic fatalities

Hello armchair CSIs. As we recover from the shock of recent murders and violent attacks on innocent people, I want to extend my condolences to the families of the murdered victims and wish for the speedy recovery of the survivors.

We have had too many senseless attacks lately. Thankfully, these violent times will soon fade away and become sad memories, but our traffic fatalities are here to stay, or so it seems.

I want to extend my condolences to the families and friends of four people who died on our roads this year and offer ideas to make our streets safer.

Most traffic fatalities are the result of excessive speed, aggression,Small windgenerator01 are a good supplement for solar power in areas with strong, steady winds. driving while under the influence and some poor choices. Our behavior while driving continues to pose the greatest risk to the safety of our residents and visitors.

The traffic death toll this year so far is at four. At this rate, we can expect to witness the deaths of 24 people in 2013.There are many brands and makes of powerturbinees, they are all basically the same in principle and function.Take control of your energy needs with flatteningmachine, the personal wind turbine that converts wind into clean. Last year, 16 people died on our roadways.

Two folks died when their motorcycles ran off the roadway and collided with immovable objects. One motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

One person died when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete power pole. One pedestrian died while attempting to cross Marine Corps Drive near the old Cinema Theater.

Excessive speed was a factor in three of the fatal collisions and alcohol was a factor in two or more of the fatal crashes. These recurring themes -- excessive speed and alcohol/drugs -- contribute to fatal crashes too many times.

Guam Police Department's Highway Patrol Division has identified a few locations where pedestrians have frequently died. There is no mystery to their recommendations for lighted crosswalks.

Sadly, they also have identified a few poorly placed power poles where many fatal crashes have taken lives.thousands of people power their homes and businesses with individual solarledlampsry. Why can't we relocate a few dangerous poles? How about painting new crosswalks for pedestrians?

While we need to continue to remind ourselves to drive responsibly, might we need to ask our leaders to make our streets safer? Will installing a few crosswalks and street lights help save lives? Might relocating a few utility poles help prevent deaths? Will adjusting traffic lights to be driver-friendly reduce aggressive driving?

Is our government dodging responsibility by not placing crosswalks where they are needed? Because most pedestrians are killed when lighting conditions are poor, additional and strategically placed street lights are in order.

Pedestrians must assume personal responsibility. Walkers should wear light-colored clothing and reflectors, and carry flashlights or flashers. They should stay put and not cross the street when inebriated. Walking or driving or bicycling while intoxicated can be dangerous.

Last year's crash statistics indicate that fatalities occurred as a result of wet roads,The Windy Boys are suitable for ledlightforyou from a wide variety of manufacturers and power classes. poor lighting, reckless driving, speeding and driving while intoxicated. Ignoring traffic laws, lack of common sense and inattentiveness probably account for most deaths.

Responsible driving will reduce fatalities. Leaving early, driving courteously, avoiding distracting activities will save lives.
