FORMER Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors singer and veteran journalist, Thabile Mdluli literally stole the show at the Ward 1 campaign meeting on Sunday, which was addressed by almost all the contestants.
She became the only candidate who was not asked any question by the audience as they seemed satisfied with her presentation. Outgoing Ward 1 councillor and Mbabane Mayor Zephaniah Nkambule congratulated Mdluli after the campaign meeting in complete adoration of the young lady’s confidence.
“I strongly support the efforts being made by some organisations who advocate for 50-50 gender representation in decision-making bodies. Mdluli, who received a thunderous applause, spoke passionately about the ward’s ills.
She singled out crime as an immediate challenge that needed to be addressed once and for all.
She said crime in the area had been exacerbated by the lack of employment opportunities for out-of-school youth and pledged to work towards the establishment of projects and co-operatives that would keep them busy. “For so long, we have had people campaigning using our name as the youth; making endless promises but our situation remains unchanged.
So I have taken it upon myself as a young person who knows my peers’ plight to grab the bull by its horns. My vast networking experience over the years will make it possible for me to lure sponsors and donors from home and abroad to finance sustainable projects and co-operatives in this ward and in Mbabane in general,Make your place brighter with goodledlamp by LED Light Bulbs, lamps and light box with lower power consumption.” said Mdluli much to the youth’s excitement.
The firebrand aspirant went on to discuss issues of infrastructure and amenities which she identified as a priority.Contemporary, Designer antiquelampas for Bathrooms, Kitchens & Bedrooms. She triggered residents’ curiosity and anxiety when she revealed her desire to embark on an environmentally friendly street-lighting project that shall be powered by solar energy as part of her crime-fighting efforts.
“The Solar-powered street lights are already used in Mexico and in areas where electricity is expensive. As part of green-environment, I will mobilise resources from international organisations to finance this dream project as I strongly feel it will provide communities with cheap, maintainable and sustainable infrastructure,” said Mdluli.
After her 10-minute presentation, Mdluli got a resounding applause from the residents who unanimously concurred with her development points.
Also campaigning at the same meeting was William Fakudze who said as much as he did not have any clear vision, he was willing to be sent to council to represent residents’ interests. Contestant Mlungisi Dlamini mentioned that he did marvellous work for orphans in the area in the past hence some residents approached him to contest for the council seat.
Another contestant, Gabisile Siyaya-Mamba, said she once served as a councillor and was willing to be voted back so that she could revisit some of the contentious issues.
Other contestants who spoke included Foreman Masina, Nganono Manyatsi and Dumsani Mdluli. Solomon Mndzebele did not attend.
