BRIGHT new street lights along with smooth roads and pavements are coming to six areas of Sheffield over the coming months under the latest phase of the Streets Ahead scheme.
The project moves into Hillsborough, Loxley, Stannington, Walkley, Wisewood and Dungworth in January. Work will include installing new LED street lighting, resurfacing pavements and roads.It will take between 15 and 20 weeks to complete the project in each area.
The LED lamps provide brighter white light, transforming roads previously illuminated by the orange glow of sodium lights. Sheffield Council said the aim is to make residents feel safer and reduce the risk of crime.
Coun Jack Scott, cabinet member for environment, recycling and streetscene, said: “We are excited about the works coming to these areas and have received great feedback about the work done elsewhere.
“This zone is the first that includes works on a main road and we have been working with our contractor, Amey, and residents, businesses and visitors to these areas to ensure we listen to their views and try to minimise disruption for them as much as possible.”
