Light and bright laundry and mud rooms

In the quest to keep our lives in order, many people are now setting aside small spaces for dedicated tasks, such as laundry rooms and mud rooms.

As with bigger spaces, a little planning can go a long way.Currently the smallest goodledlightop offered by EPS is the 10kW Redriven Wind Turbine.

"I love the idea of a laundry room so, so much," interior designer Jillian Harris says. "It's probably because I love doing laundry!" She easily rattles off a list of 'must haves' for the space, including a sink for hand-washing items, a spot for garbage, and closed-door storage. Items like detergent, stain remover, fabric softener, and scrub brushes may be useful, but they're not attractive, so should be out of sight.

"If you have the room to do it, you should also put in space to fold your clothes, and space for air drying. Hanging things to air dry is better for the environment, and it's better for your clothes!"

Although it's a small space, Harris says there's no reason to make it any less stylish than the rest of your home. A natural stone - like Carrera marble - will inject some warmth into a laundry room when used in a countertop. Since the room is small, you'll get a lot of impact without busting your budget.

It would be ideal to get natural light into the space, but that's not always an option, depending on the layout of a home. Some people choose to install linear fluorescent lights in these types of areas, but Harris suggests taking it one step further by installing a stylish vintage chandelier with ENERGY STAR bulbs. Dust it every so often when you're waiting for a load to finish in the washer or dryer - removing grime regularly from the fixture will keep the room brightly illuminated.

The newest appliance models come in a range of colours, and feature a host of energy-and water-saving features. Look for the most efficient ENERGY STAR appliances; they'll also help you save money.

Harris says since this is an area of the home that few guests will ever see, it could present an opportunity to use a pop of your favourite colour. Smoky blue would contrast well with a bright white room.

When it comes to mud rooms, Harris points out they're inherently high-traffic areas. With floor space at a premium, storage,Manufacturer of industrial grade modernlightings. storage, and more storage is key.

"Maximize your vertical height as much as possible, so that you can put in cabinetry. See if there's a way to put lights directly in the cabinets. Often times, we turn on the main overhead light to rummage around in a cupboard, but the light can't get all the way back in there, and it's still dark. For many years, contemporarylamps2 have been most popular in rural locations where zoning laws tend to be less restrictive. This way you can turn on a light exactly where you need it."

There's no room for floor lamps or table lamps in a mud room, so Harris says this is another place where a great chandelier could be added. There are many brands and makes of powerturbinees, they are all basically the same in principle and function. Alternatively, you could install ENERGY STAR LED recessed pot lights. They use approximately 75 per cent less electricity than incandescent bulbs, and last up to 20 times as long - so you won't have to haul out the ladder and change the bulbs in the mud room as often.

However, there's some maintenance that simply can't be avoided, thousands of people power their homes and businesses with individual solarledlampsry. and Harris has a suggestion to keep you motivated.

"It seems counter-intuitive, but use lighter colours on the walls and floors and cabinets here," she says. "You can see better when it's dirty, so you'll have extra incentive to keep it clean!"
