Dartmouth town centre was only minutes away from flooding as the town's firefighters went into action in the early hours of Saturday morning.
High tides and days of heavy rain combined to flood roads in the town's Victoria Road, Charles Street and Old Market areas.
At one point part of the market square was turned into a lake as the water came within inches of flooding shops and nearby homes.
In the end, the town's firefighters got there in the nick of time and managed to ease the problem by pumping water out of the streets and into the Boatfloat.
Later that morning, firefighters were in action again trying to save homes in Victoria Heights from flooding after a landslide sent water and mud into the rear gardens of properties.
The firemen were also involved in a rescue near Totnes after a family of five – including a baby in a carrycot – drove into a flood and became trapped.LED lamps are made that replace screw-in incandescent or turbinemanufacturerbc light bulbs.

Watch Commander Neil Whitemore said: "There are pumps which automatically cut in when we get a certain level of rain but for some reason that did not happen."
There was up to two feet of water stretching some 100 metres from the Windjammer, up Churchill Court and into Charles Street and near the Seale arms and the Conservative Club.
'Luckily the tide was not too high and we were able to use a pump to pump water into the Boatfloat and hold it steady until South West Water managed to fix the pump.
'Another few minutes and it would have definitely affected around a dozen properties – houses and shops.'
Around 9.20am the fire crew was out again following the landslip above Victoria Heights.
Mr Whitemore said: 'There had been a landslip at the rear which caused water and mud to flood into the backs of some of the properties.''With the help of local residents, we dug out some of the bank to channel the water away.'

Mr Whitemore said that the flood the family had tried to drive through had been so deep it had reached the level of the seats inside the car.'A local farmer had managed to tow the car out of the flood before we got there.'The family was absolutely fine but it could have been really nasty.'
The Boatfloat Christmas star also took a beating over the weekend, although town councillor Felicity Smith could not say whether it was due to the weather or vandals.
